Create your own wedding flowers

Recession Bride

Making your own wedding flowers is not only a good way to personalize your wedding, but it helps to control the cost of flowers.  And remember, you don't have to do it alone.

The best way to keep yourself from being overstressed is making sure you have help.  Enlist your friends, family, bridesmaids, whoever you would like.

You need at least 2-3 people woh can assist depending on the size of your wedding.  If you have a small intimate affair, 2-3 should be more than enough.  If you are having a larger wedding, try to have between 4-5 to help you.

You should make sure that you start planning early.   Bring along your helpers to look at flowers that you would like to use.  Make it a fun afternoon or evening event and use the opportunity to sample some of the language elements of the arrangements so that everyone will know exactly how you want your floral arrangements.

Scheduling is everything

You've decided to make your own arrangements, as you have more than enough great friends who can help you, and everybody knows exactly what to do.  What's next?  It's important to get everything timed right, so that when the big day arrives, all you need to think about is walking down the aisle.

It is a good rule of thumb to plan to spend around 3-4 hours to attend the wedding, the day before the wedding, on every site.  This should give you all the time to get in and help.  Of course, additional guidance, the faster it moves, and if the ceremony and reception are located in the same building or region, certainly helps in keeping with the schedule.  If you have unrestricted access to places, you can arrange the schedule the way you like.  If you are bringing bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres, you can have it ready to go on your wedding day.

Except when using very delicate flowers, or flowers with a very short life,  you can create arrangements ahead of up to two days before the actual ceremony.  This definitely keeps everything less stressful.   Otherwise, you need to make these the same day as the actual ceremony so that they retain all of their beauty.  Bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and nosegays should be done the day before the wedding, and stored carefully so that they stay as fresh as possible.

And as always, keep a florist on backup just in case.
